Conference on English Leadership Awards
Each year CEL recognizes those who represent the best characteristics of literacy leaders. Our awards celebrate those who have dedicated their careers to teaching and leading as well as those who approach leadership with an innovative mindset.
Call for Nominations: Deadline April 1
The Innovative Leadership and Teacher-Leader of Excellence Awards must contain the Nomination Form, at least two letters of recommendation, and the candidate’s curriculum vitae. If you are unsure which award best matches you/the nominee’s experience, please email cel@ncte.org. Note: The CEL Awards Committee may consider nominees for an award different from the one for which they were nominated if they feel it is a better fit.
Kent Williamson Exemplary Leader Award
The CEL Kent Williamson Exemplary Leader Award is given annually to an NCTE member who is an outstanding English Language Arts educator and leader. The award is named in honor of Kent D. Williamson (1957-2015), who served as NCTE’s Executive Director from 2000-2015. Please visit the webpage for nomination submission information.
Innovative Leadership Award
The CEL Innovative Leadership Award recognizes an early- or mid-career leader and NCTE member who has shown innovative leadership at the local, regional, and/or national level or for innovative approaches to teaching and/or professional development through new and progressive methods and delivery models.
Teacher-Leader of Excellence Award
The CEL Teacher-Leader of Excellence Award recognizes a classroom educator who leads the way of literacy instruction by sharing his or her work with others at local and/or national levels.
Nomination FormELQ Best Article Award
The CEL English Leadership Quarterly Best Article Award is given annually to the authors of two articles written and published in English Leadership Quarterly. Nominations are not accepted for this award.
